President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has announced a 34 member Cabinet in what is being described as his “Work Cabinet” following comments made in his inauguration speech.
There had been a delay to the announcement of the Cabinet after the new President had voluntarily submitted all the names to the anti-corruption commission; eight names came back as unsuitable and a rapid reappraisal had to be made. The names of the eight people rejected have not been published.
There are eight women ministers in the new Cabinet and 19 of the positions are technocrats or professional appointments rather than politicians. Coordinating Ministers outrank normal ministers in the new Cabinet.
